HOUSTON, TX — Spring is here, and while many are thinking it’s time for mosquitoes, fleas and fire ants to begin to appear in the Bayou City, most may not be thinking about termites.
However, Houston was at the top of the list of the 25 cities in the U.S. in 2017 where termites are especially prevalent.

According to an article in Business Wire, the top 25 cities for termite infestations in 2017 were:
Houston Los Angeles Mobile, Ala. San Antonio San Diego Dallas Memphis Jacksonville, FL Miami Tampa. Phoenix Orlando Atlanta Cincinnati Philadelphia Sacramento Honolulu San Jose Baton Rouge Pittsburgh Savannah Nashville Little Rock Tucson Louisville
Many of those areas where termites thrive are damp and humid regions.
Experts warn that early detection is important, and that the smallest hint of termites in your home should be addressed.
Some of those warning signs could include hollowed or damaged wood, blisters in wood that resemble small cracks, droppings that resemble coffee grounds or sawdust, or mud tubes near the base of your home.
The professionals at Terminix recommend homeowners take some preventive measures to minimize the termite possibility, such as trimming back shrubbery, and using synthetic mulch or pea gravel when landscaping near your home’s foundation.
