Boy, 6, drowns in west Houston apartment complex pool

A 6-year-old boy drowned in the swimming pool of an apartment complex in Briarforest, said Houston Police.

Police said the boy appeared to have climbed over the locked gate of La Fontaine Apartments and fallen in the water, where he was found at 10:50 a.m. He was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in the Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

At least 18 children have drowned in the Houston area in 2019, according to the Texas Department of Family and Health Services. Most drownings — 74 percent — involve children under the age of 5, said the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, which conducted a study on child drownings.
